In a first, IIITH’s R&D Showcase to be presented in Metaverse on March 12
The annual event allows faculty and students to share their work in a more tangible form through demos, prototypes and interactive presentations. This year's showcase is in hybrid format, physical on-campus and online in the Metaverse.
The International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad will host its annual Research & Development Showcase on March 12 in a hybrid model – on campus for students and in the metaverse, for the first time, for visitors.
What is Metaverse?
Metaverse generally refers to shared virtual world environments which people can access via the internet. The term can refer to digital spaces which are made more lifelike by the use of virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR). The event will be hosted on the metaverse by NextMeetLive, one of the start-ups under the Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship’s (CIE) Avishkar initiative.
‘Tech-away – Accelerating the Future’
Themed ‘Tech-away – Accelerating the Future’, this year’s showcase is based on the technology orbit shifts triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. During the event, faculty and students will share their work with the public in keeping with its endeavour to promote applied research that benefits society.
This year’s line-up includes roundtable discussions on quantum science and technology and cyber-physical convergence. There will also be pitches on research product possibilities, research connected start-up demos, 600 research demos from IIIT Hyderabad's 28 research centres and a summary showcase. Vinod K Nandicoori, the director of the Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology, will deliver the inaugural keynote on how research is integral to the world today and tomorrow.
