Indian Navy Admission To Happen Through JEE Main
Admissions to Indian Navy will now happen through a candidate's performance in JEE Main exam and not on the basis of his/her percentage of class XII marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM). The shortlisting criteria was revised recently for candidates aspiring to join the navy through its 10+2 B.Tech cadet entry scheme.
According to latest information, the initiative has been taken to keep a check upon the uneven quality of candidates getting through for Services Selection Board (SSB) interview or training.
One of the senior officials was quoted as saying, "Different state examination boards have gone berserk in awarding high marks in Class XII. We were finding the quality of candidates coming for the SSB (services selection board) interview or training very uneven".
He further added, "JEE (Main) ranks, which the CBSE has agreed to share with us, will be a better benchmark. With the government approving the move, youngsters will have to appear for the JEE (Main) in 2017 to be eligible for the January 2018 course at INA".
Basis the new criteria, as many as 120 cadets will be selected for the SSB interview only on the basis of their JEE Mains ranks. Besides this scheme, there are two more ways the Indian Navy recruits candidates at the officer level. Take a look at the same below:
- One of the ways aspirants are recruited is through National Defence Academy (NDA), Kadakwasla (Pune). Around 78 candidates are selected(only after they clear UPSC exam and SSB interview) for a three-year course at the tri-service NDA. After an year of intensive training at the INA, these candidates are then commissioned as officers with B Tech degrees.
- Another way of entry is through UPSC. As many as 110 cadets directly join the INA for the four-year B Tech programme after clearing the exam. Selection of aspirants through this mode takes place twice a year.
JEE Main 2017 will be held in April. Take a look at the important dates for JEE Main 2017 here.
