The India Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee released the JEE Advanced cutoff 2026 today. The cutoff for all categories has witnessed a rise this year in comparison to last year, what could be a sign of increased competition in admissions across IITs.

JEE Advanced Cutoff Marks 2026 Rise

JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff has been announced by IIT Roorkee. Cutoff is the minimum marks required to qualify the exam and for inclusion in the rank list. The JEE Advanced cutoff has witnessed a rise this year across all categories.

There’s a massive rise in the minimum aggregate marks required for qualification for CRL which rose from 20.56% in 2025 to 25.56% this year. Similarly, the minimum aggregate marks for qualification under CRL category rose to 92 marks this year from 74 marks in 2025.

Also, there’s a rise in total number of candidates who qualified this year in JEE Advanced in comparison to previous year. A total of 54,378 candidates qualified JEE Advanced last year while in JEE Advanced 2026, the total number of qualified candidates stood at 56,680.

The rise in JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff marks as well as the total qualified candidates implies large number of candidates are entering into competition for the same number of seats at IITs.

How will Rise in JEE Advanced Cutoff Impact Admissions

The rise in JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff marks do not relate directly to the admissions as the seats to candidates are allotted basis the rank of candidates in the exam. However, it raises concern that with limited seats in IITs and increased qualified candidates, there will be more number of top rankers candidates fighting for the admission.

JEE Advanced 2026 Result Analysis

IIT Roorkee announced JEE Advanced result 2026 on June 1. A total of 1,79,694 candidates appeared in both papers 1 and 2 in JEE Advanced 2026, held on May 17. A total 56,880 candidates have qualified out which 10,107 are female candidates.

Shubham Kumar of IIT Delhi zone is the top ranker in the Common Rank List CRL. He obtained 330 out of 360 marks. Arohi Deshpande of IIT Delhi zone is the top-ranked female candidate with CRL 77. She obtained 280 out of 360 marks.

The JEE Advanced 2025 cutoff of the common rank list is 20.56%; 18.50% for the GEN-EWS rank list and OBC-NCL rank list; 10.28% for SC, ST, and PwD rank lists across all categories; and 5.14% for Preparatory course rank lists.

All those candidates who score above the cutoff marks in their respective categories can register for JoSAA counselling to participate in the IIT seat allotment process. Note that qualifying the JEE Advaced cutoff will not guarantee a seat in the IITs. Various factors are at play while allotting seats in the IITs. These factors include the demand for a course and IIT, the number of seats on offer, the reservation criteria, etc.
