JEE Main 2025 Jan 28 Shift 1 Most Difficult Yet; Potential Impact on Cutoff for JEE Advanced

The JEE Main 2025 shift 1 exam held today, January 28 from 9 am to 12 noon has been rated as the most difficult shift yet. Candidates said that unexpectedly, Physics was very tough. Maths was tough constantly in all the shifts, however, in this shift, Physics took all the candidates by surprise. The exam in Shift 1 of JEE Main 2025 on 28 January was considered quite challenging. Overall, candidates found it to be the toughest shift so far in the session.
- Mathematics: The paper was lengthy and tough, with many questions drawn from topics like Vector and 3D Geometry, Special Sequences, Area under the Curve, Differential Equations, Matrices, Probability, and Conic Sections.
- Physics: The questions were also lengthy, and no direct ones were asked. The topics covered included Rotation, Moment of Inertia, Modern Physics, Resistance, Semiconductor Physics, Fluid Mechanics, Electric Potential, Vectors, Electricity, and the Carnot Engine.
- Chemistry: The paper was moderate but not easy like the other shifts so far and followed the NCERT curriculum. A significant portion of the questions was from Inorganic Chemistry, including topics like salts, the periodic table, and ionization energy comparisons. Organic Chemistry had the fewest questions.

With higher difficulty levels, experts are now predicting that the JEE Main 2025 cutoff for JEE Advance qualification may drop. Until the third day the cutoff was expected to be around 110+ marks, However, now the experts are predicting that there can be a drop. However, it is to be considered that there will be normalisation and therefore the difficulty level across the shifts will be considered while calculating the percentile and deciding the cutoff. Also, one more day for the JEE Main 2025 BE/BTech paper is yet to be held. The final JEE Main cutoff for JEE Advanced will be decided after JEE Main 2025 session 2 in April. NTA will announce the cutoff with the April session result.
