JEE Main 2025 Cutoff Update After Day 3; Experts Predict 110+ Marks for JEE Advanced Eligibility
The JEE Main 2025 January session exam is scheduled to run until January 30. The session 2 exams will take place from April 1 to 8, with the final result expected to be announced by April 17. The result will include the JEE Main 2025 cutoff, which determines eligibility for JEE Advanced. In the meantime, experts have shared their predictions for the cutoff based on the exam's difficulty level and past trends, read below.
The third day of the JEE Main 2025 session 1 exam was held today, January 24 in two shifts. According to the JEE Main 2025 January 24 Shift 1 and 2 paper analysis and student reactions, the paper was moderate to difficult. Mathematics was lengthy and tough while Physics was easy and chemistry had a few tough questions. After day JEE Main 2025 day 3, based on the difficulty level of the paper and the previous trends, experts project that the cutoff for JEE Advanced eligibility can be 110 and above marks out of 300.
IIT Kanpur has announced that for JEE Advanced 2025, a total of 2.5 lakh candidates will be selected. However, this number may slightly exceed 2,50,000 due to tied ranks or scores within any category. Last year, the number of candidates selected was 2,50,284. As the organising IIT for JEE Advanced 2025, IIT Kanpur has outlined the following category-wise selection quotas:

Last year, the cutoff for the JEE Mains exam to qualify for JEE Advanced saw a significant increase, reaching its highest value in the past five years. The JEE Main cutoffs for JEE Advanced in various categories were as follows: UR (General) at 93.2362181, OBC at 79.6757881, EWS at 81.3266412, UR-PWD at 0.0018700, SC at 60.0923182, and ST at 46.6975840. In contrast, the cutoffs for the previous year were notably lower, with General at 90.7788642, EWS at 75.6229025, OBC at 73.6114227, SC at 51.9776027, ST at 37.2348772, and PwD at 0.0013527.
The JEE Main 2025 cutoff for JEE Advanced 2025 will be announced by the NTA after both sessions of the JEE Main exam are completed. The session 1 exams are going on and will be wrapped on January 30. The results for the January session of JEE Main 2025 are expected to be announced by February 12. Session 2 will take place from April 1 to April 8, and registrations for it will open on January 31. The JEE Main 2025 cutoff for JEE Advanced, along with the results for JEE Main Session 2, will be released by April 17. The All India Rank (AIR) for JEE Main 2025 will also be published alongside the Session 2 results.
There are two types of Joint Entrance Examination Advanced cutoffs: qualifying and admission cutoffs.
The qualifying cutoff is released with the result. Last year, the cutoff marks were 74 marks for the Common Rank List (CRL); 66 for GEN-EWS rank list & OBC rank list; 37 marks for SC, ST and PWD rank lists; and 18 marks for Preparatory course rank lists.
The admission cutoff will be released during the seat allotment process by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). The admission cutoff is released round-wise in the form of closing ranks for all courses and categories.
This year, the NTA has implemented some changes to the JEE Main exam pattern. Section B in JEE Main Paper 1 will no longer feature optional questions; students will have to answer all 5 mandatory questions in each subject. Similarly, Papers 2A and 2B will eliminate optional questions in the Mathematics sections.
