Candidates are now anxious for their allotted exam date and city, so that they can make travel and accommodation arrangements accordingly. More delay will lead to last-minute hassles for the candidates.

Last year, NTA announced the exact exam dates for the JEE Mains session 1 exam on January 2. For this year, the exact dates are still not available. Further, NTA had notified via the official brochure that the JEE Mains city slip will be out in the first week of January 2026. Today, January 7, marks the last day of January week one, but the city slips have not been issued yet.

Why is the JEE Mains Session 1 Exam Date 2026 Delayed?

One reason that can be behind the delay of the JEE Mains exam date announcement is that NTA has asked the candidates who registered for the JEE Main 2026 exam using identity proof documents other than the Aadhaar Card.

NTA has noticed some cases where the live photographs captured by the candidates during the application process did not match the photographs as per the records available with UIDAI. Such candidates have to now complete the photo verification certificate upload by January 15.

This might be causing the delay in the announcement of the JEE Main 2026 exam date and the city intimation slip.

JEE Main 2026 City intimation Latest Update

As per the latest update on the JEE Main 2026 city intimation slip, NTA has already generated the login link to download the city slip. However, the city intimation slips are not yet available under the candidate login. The link was generated on January 6, and it can be expected that the city slip can be out anytime soon now at jeemain.nta.nic.in.

NTA will hold the JEE Main 2026 session exam between January 21 to 30. The exam date and exam centre city will be allotted to the candidates via the city intimation slip. The exam shift, reporting time and exam day guidelines will be provided to the candidates via the JEE Mains 2026 admit card, 3 to 4 days before the exam.
