JOSAA 2016: Students unhappy with seat allocation can withdraw admissions after every round
JOSAA 2016 Counselling process for admissions to 92 engineering institutes across the country including the premier IITs, NITs and CFTIs is expected to commence from June 20 only if Class XII state boards score are made available. Check JOSAA 2016 important dates here.
According to latest information, from this year onwards, aspirants who are unhappy with the seat allocation and who hope to get a better seat in subsequent rounds can withdraw their admissions after every round.
One of the professors was quoted as saying, "If students are allotted a seat which is lower on their preference list and would like to opt for a state-run engineering institute closer home, they will be allowed to release the seat. This seat will be made available to students in subsequent rounds. The withdrawal option will benefit students and institutes", reported a national daily.
The option of withdrawal has been provided following the inconvenience faced by IIT, NIT aspirants during the JOSAA(Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling sessions held last year. If reports are to be believed, there also are chances of including one or more rounds to fill all seats in premier institutes. This will also benefit students with lower ranks who will be able to take up seats that are vacant.
The joint seat allocation process is held basis the JEE Main and JEE Advanced ranks of students. In 2015, the counselling process commenced late due to the unavailability of class XII scores.
The ranks for JEE Main 2016 will be announced on the official website of CBSE on June 30, 2016.
