JoSAA 2026: CBSE Students Below 75% Marks Can Participate in Counselling, Says IIT Roorkee

In a social media post at X, the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, the organising institute of JEE Advanced 2026, informed candidates that those whose Class 12 (or equivalent) marks are presently below the prescribed eligibility criteria can still participate in the choice-filling and seat-allocation process.

According to the announcement, candidates belonging to the General, OBC-NCL and EWS categories who have secured less than 75% marks in Class 12, and candidates from the SC, ST and PwD categories who have obtained less than 65% marks, remain eligible to fill their choices during JoSAA counselling. Seat allocation will continue to be carried out based on the candidate's JEE Advanced rank.

However, such candidates must subsequently submit a revised marksheet or scorecard showing the required minimum percentage as per their category. The revised document must be emailed to orgjee@iitr.ac.in on or before July 15, 2026.

The institute further clarified that admission will be confirmed only after the revised scorecard is received and verified. Eligible candidates will then be granted admission to the seat allotted to them at the conclusion of the fourth round of counselling.

What IIT Roorkee Said About 75% Criteria in JoSAA

The official statement reads:

For those students whose  Class 12 (or equivalent) marks are less than 75% (for General/OBC-NCL/GEN-EWS categories) or less than 65% (for SC/ST/PwD categories), please note the following: You are eligible to fill in your choices at present, and seats will be allocated to you based on your rank. You need to send the revised score card with at least 75%  or 65% as per your category by July 15th 2026 through the email orgjee@iitr.ac.in. On receipt of the same,  admission will be given to whichever seat is allocated to you at the end of 4th round.

Key Points for Candidates Participating in JoSAA 2026 Counselling

  • As of now, no official update has been put up on the JoSAA 2026 website - josaa.nic.in.
  • Whether this relaxation is only for IIT Roorkee or all participating colleges of JoSAA is yet to be clear.

Candidates appearing for improvement examinations or awaiting updated board results are advised to keep track of the July 15 deadline and ensure that the revised marksheet is submitted within the stipulated period. Failure to provide the updated scorecard meeting the required eligibility criteria may impact admission to IITs through the JoSAA 2026 counselling process.
