JoSAA 2026 Remains Fair and Transparent; Assures IIT Roorkee Amid JEE Advanced Data Breach Claims
IIT Roorkee has clarified that recent claims of a data breach involving JEE Advanced 2026 candidates are misleading and do not affect the fairness, transparency, or integrity of the ongoing JoSAA 2026 counselling process.
IIT Roorkee has clarified via X post that "Claims of a data breach and privacy violation affecting lakhs of JEE (Advanced) aspirants are misleading and factually incorrect." The clarification comes amid the JoSAA counselling process that started on June 2. IIT Roorkee has also issued another important advisory regarding the Class 12 eligibility criteria recently. The institute had informed CBSE candidates who are yet to meet the 75% marks requirement that they can continue participating in counselling and submit revised scorecards by July 15, 2026. This relief is given due to the CBSE OSM row.
According to the latest statement, the alleged data breach started from a temporary technical misconfiguration.
The X post clarified, "On 2nd June 2026, certain technical interventions were undertaken on an expedited basis to assist candidates experiencing difficulties in accessing admit card data and to ensure the smooth functioning of the registration process. These interventions resulted in a minimal, temporary misconfiguration in a cloud storage component. An ethical hacker, Mr Rylen Anil, identified this misconfiguration and reported that he could access the concerned database. The issue was immediately rectified, and access to the data was restricted."
No Impact on JoSAA 2026 Seat Allotment or Candidate Records
IIT Roorkee stated that the technical issue involving cloud storage was immediately rectified, and access to the data was restricted. Most importantly for candidates participating in JoSAA 2026, the institute clarified that the incident had zero impact on examination outcomes, including JEE Advanced marks, ranks, category details, or the JoSAA seat allocation process
The institute assured its commitment to maintaining the integrity, security, and transparency of both JEE Advanced and JoSAA counselling.
