Over 20 Firms Blacklisted by IITs for Revoking Student Job Offers
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have announced a major decision at the start of the placement season, keeping in mind the students’ benefit and safeguarding their interests. A unanimous decision of IITs has barred more than 20 companies from this year’s on-campus placement drives.
The ban has been implemented unanimously across several IIT campuses after placement coordinators from about 15 IITs cross-verified records and found that the same firms had revoked offers at multiple institutes. Predominantly, the blacklisted firms belonged to the data analytics and software sectors.
A graduate from IIT Bombay (class of 2025) shared how his job offer for Rs. 30 lakh p.a (approx.) was rescinded just two days before his scheduled joining date. Despite the last-minute shock, he was lucky enough to get another opportunity soon through an alumnus connection. However, not all had such luck. Multiple affected students reportedly found themselves stranded, having turned down other interview calls (due to the “one-student-one-job” rule many IITs follow) and lost at the last moment.

To fill potential gaps, IIT placement cells are reportedly pushing for broader participation by start-ups and companies backed under the government’s Viksit Bharat programme, potentially opening newer, more diverse avenues for students.
