Over 60K engineering seats vacant after found rounds of TNEA Counselling 2022
Similar to last year, after four rounds TNEA counselling, more than 60,000 engineering seats remained vacant. Last year 65000 seats remained vacant.
More than 60000 engineering seats out of a total of 1.5 lakh engineering seats have remained vacant in Tamil Nadu after four rounds of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) Counselling.
Official data stated, out of the 1.5 lakh seats available for single-window counselling in 446 colleges across the state, 93,571 seats (or 60.65%) were allotted to students this year. Of this, 84,812 seats were allotted for general category students while 8,759 were allotted to 7.5% government school students quota. Of this, 60,707 seats were left vacant, as reported by Indian Express.
This number is despite new courses were added to computer science and IT departments and the placement seasons were also better. TNEA officials are expecting the figures to get better after supplementary counselling for which registrations closed on November 13. Over 10,000 students have registered to participate in the counselling, confirmed by TNEA secretary, T Purushothaman.

Only 12 colleges managed to fill all seats, of these three are private institutes. This year, only 66 colleges filled 90% of their seats and 36 colleges filled less than 10 seats (single-digit admission).
As per the report, the quality has declined due to decreased colleges with 100% admission and there is an increase in the number of colleges with zero admissions from last year’s seven colleges to 14 colleges this time.
