Uttar Pradesh Tops Country in APAAR ID Creation Across Schools, Higher Education; Over 3.69 Crore Students Covered

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top-performing state in the country in creating APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) IDs across both school and higher education. The achievement marks a major milestone in the state's efforts to strengthen digital education and implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

According to official data released by Uttar Pradesh Department of Information & Public Relations, Uttar Pradesh has generated 2,95,90,359 APAAR IDs for students enrolled in school education, the highest among all states. Maharashtra follows with 2,09,53,061 IDs, while Bihar ranks third with 1,58,86,050 IDs.

In higher education as well, Uttar Pradesh leads the country by creating 73,20,603 APAAR IDs. Maharashtra is in the second position with 55,52,064 IDs, followed by Rajasthan with 42,16,422 IDs.

Uttar Pradesh Leads Digital Academic Identity Initiative

The state government has accelerated the APAAR ID creation drive to provide every student with a unique digital academic identity. APAAR ID enables students to securely store and access their academic records throughout their educational journey.

The initiative is expected to make admissions, scholarship verification, examinations, credit transfers and employment-related document verification faster and more transparent. It also reduces paperwork by allowing institutions to access verified academic records digitally.

Officials said the state has focused on integrating educational records across schools, colleges and universities to build a seamless digital ecosystem for students.

Universities Directed to Upload Academic Records

To strengthen the implementation of APAAR, the Uttar Pradesh government has instructed universities and higher education institutions to map students' academic documents with their APAAR IDs. These include degrees, diplomas, marksheets, transcripts and certificates.

Institutions have also been directed to upload these records to the National Academic Depository (NAD) and Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). The government has asked universities to complete the uploading process for the 2025 academic session by July 2026, while ensuring the timely conduct of examinations and declaration of results.

With more than 3.69 crore APAAR IDs created across schools and higher education, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leading state in implementing digital academic identity under NEP 2020. The initiative is expected to improve record management, enhance transparency and make academic services more accessible for students across the state.
