WBJEE 2025 result postponed again; Calcutta HC directs WBJEEB to prepare fresh merit list within 15 days

WBJEEB has postponed the WBJEE 2025 result announcement again. The authorities were prepared to release the WBJEE result 2025 today, i.e., August 7, 2025, but the contempt plea filed against the state at the Calcutta High Court led to the cancellation of the announcement. The HC conducted the hearing today, presided over by Justice Kausik Chanda, and the board has been directed to prepare a new merit list for WBJEE 2025 admissions within 15 days, citing that the published one is “erroneous and unsustainable”.

WBJEE 2025 Result: New WBJEE merit list to be prepared offering 7% reservation

During the hearing, Justice Kausik Chanda has directed the WBJEE board to prepare a fresh merit list within 15 days, which offers 7% reservation for the 66 classes of OBC candidates, recognised by the West Bengal Backwards Classes Department before 2010. PTI reports that the decision has been made, as Calcutta HC believes that the preparation of the WBJEE merit list has been done in clear violation of the court’s order passed on May 21, 2025, i.e., by providing reservations to the OBC candidates in terms of the new policy.

According to the Calcutta High Court, the new reservation policy is inapplicable to WBJEE since it came into effect from June 10, 2025, whereas the exam was held on April 27, 2025.

Why was the WBJEE 2025 result postponed?

WBJEE result 2025 was scheduled to be released on August 7, 2025. However, the suo motu proceeding was initiated by Justice Kausik Chanda after receiving a contempt plea in his personal email from the students. During the hearing, the Principal Secretary of Higher Education, West Bengal, was directed to appear virtually in court to clarify the state’s position.
