HEIs to encourage students to participate in P.N. Panicker National Reading Celebrations 2023

UGC requested that Higher Education Institutions encourage students and parents to active participation in the PN Panicker National Reading Day / Reading Month Celebrations 2023.

The Higher Education Institutions are requested to encourage students and parents to active participation in the PN Panicker National Reading Day/Reading Month Celebrations 2023, reads UGC's letter.

Honouring the Father of the 'Library Movement in Kerala', the late PN Panicker, the Government of Kerala has been celebrating June 19 as the Day of Reading. This initiative commenced in collaboration with the PN Panicker Foundation. During the 27th year of Reading Day/Month celebrations 2023, a variety of events are scheduled to be organised in physical and digital mode in colleges by the PN Panicker Foundation which may include seminars, elocution, essay writing, mass run etc. to inculcate reading habit.

"The National Education Policy 2020 has emphasized reading as a key skill for Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (FLN). The contribution of reading in improving students' learning outcomes has been demonstrated in various research studies. Reading helps in developing thoughts, improves concentration and memory, enhances imagination and empathy, gives endless knowledge and lessons while keeping the mind active and strengthens writing abilties," added the UGC's letter.

UGC has extended last date for inviting nominations for NEP SAARTHI

The last date for inviting nominations for NEP SAARTHI has been extended. Institutions may send up to 3 nominations for the “Student Ambassador for Academic Reforms in Transforming Higher Education in India” on saarthi-nep@ugc.gov.in by June 30, 2023.
