Seventy-two percent of the applicants took the BSc program entrance exam, which is encouraging.  However, it still falls well short of the entire number of seats," the director of a National Council-affiliated institute stated. Even if half of those who took the test choose to enrol, it still only makes up fewer than 40 per cent of the available seats.

With just 8000 students taking the NTA-conducted JEE for the three-year B.Sc.degree offered by IHMs, and 12,500 seats available across 90+ institutions, it will be difficult for institutions in smaller towns and cities to fill their seats. "Seventy-two percent of the applicants took the BSc program entrance exam, which is encouraging.  However, it still falls well short of the entire number of seats," the director of a National Council-affiliated institute stated as per the reports.

Even if half of those who took the test choose to enrol, it still only makes up fewer than 40 per cent of the available seats. Since they are the first choice for applicants, central IHMs in major metro areas are not particularly concerned by these statistics, but state and private IHMs connected to the NCHMCT will once again be affected.

Given their efforts and outreach programs at the unit and national levels, the academic community involved in hospitality education has been taken aback by this year's JEE application shortage.

The NCHMCT wrote to all principals after the JEE deadline ended in March, advising them to be ready because there was a "distinct possibility" that many IHMs might not receive "sufficient students from the JEE pool."  The NCHMCT CEO also stated in the letter that when the JEE counselling process is finished, the council will probably hold another round of testing and admission at the institutions with "residual vacancies" for candidates who register for direct admissions.

With a number of candidates appearing for NCHMCT JEE reducing in the last five years in a round, in the coming days, there will undoubtedly be more calls to remove the admissions process from the NTA system.
