Calcutta University PG Admission Test Dates Expected This Week; Marks-Based Admission Ends

Calcutta University will announce PG admission test dates soon, with admissions from 2026-27 based on entrance exam marks and undergraduate performance instead of marks alone.

Calcutta University PG Admission 2026: University of Calcutta will introduce common admission tests for admission to its postgraduate programmes from 2026-27 academic session. The university has decided to discontinue earlier practice of providing PG admissions only based on undergraduate marks.

CU Vice-Chancellor Ashutosh Ghosh said that dates for admission tests will be announced by end of this week. Calcutta University entrance exams will be conducted for postgraduate courses offered both by university and its affiliated colleges.

According to university, students completing three year undergraduate programme will now have to appear for common admission test to get admission into two year master’s degree courses. Calcutta university stated that admission will be based on combination of undergraduate academic performance and entrance test scores. Equal weightage will be given to marks obtained till fifth semester of undergraduate studies and performance in admission test.

Change Introduced Under NEP Structure

This move comes after implementation of four-year undergraduate programme under National Education Policy at Calcutta University in 2023. Under NEP structure, students are allowed to exit undergraduate programme after completing three years and can later pursue a two year postgraduate programme.

Affiliated Colleges to Conduct Their Own PG Admissions

Calcutta University had earlier announced that affiliated colleges would be allowed to decide their own process for screening and selecting students for postgraduate programmes from current academic year. CU also confirmed that postgraduate admissions in affiliated colleges will no longer be conducted through centralised PG admission system from 2026-27 academic session.
