The Delhi government gave its approval for a new skill and entrepreneurship development university with an initial capacity of 50,000 students who will be enrolled in regular and part-time courses in various streams. The university will be merged with all the Industrial Training Institutions (ITIs), polytechnics and skill development centres which will have collaboration with different countries and companies. The aim of this university is to make the youth more employable.
The university’s performance will be measured in terms of the kinds of jobs that the students get. A sincere effort will ensure jobs for all the students who graduate from this university.
According to Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Chief Minister, “While the Cabinet has given its consent, the proposal will require clearance from the Delhi Lieutenant Governor before its approval by the Delhi Assembly.”
Different levels of courses, ranging between six months to two years, will be provided to students from Class 10 to the graduate and postgraduate levels. These will guarantee jobs. The courses will have a high level of flexibility in terms of redesigning.
He further added that various governments have made skill centres but they do not adapt to the requirements of the market. Courses once designed will remain for 25 to 30 years without any revision or upgradation. The university will design courses after taking into consideration the relevant market research.
