Delhi University to Introduce One-Year PG Course From Session 2026; Details Here
Delhi University One-Year PG programme will enable students to earn 22 credits per semester, totalling 44 credits for the programme from the academic session 2026 onwards.
Delhi University will introduce a one-year postgraduate programme from the academic session 2026 onwards. The DU PG one-year programme will be in line with the National Education Policy. Reportedly, the draft proposal for the implementation of one-year PG courses will be discussed at the Academic Council meeting on December 27 as one of the agenda for the meeting.
Though the new framework will be as per the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Postgraduate Programmes issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, several stakeholders, including professors have criticised the proposal and considered it rushed for approval.
DU FYUP Underway
Delhi University's four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) is being implemented with students currently in the third semester. The FYUP have several benefits including:
- Eligibility to get a certificate once the first year is completed.
- Eligibility of getting a diploma after completion of two years.
- Eligibility of getting a degree after completion of three years.
- Eligibility of getting a degree with honours after completing the fourth year.
Provided that, students will be able to appear for a two-year PG programme after the completion of the three-year undergraduate programme while students, who will complete the four-year programme will be eligible for the one-year PG programme, as reported by News18.
Credit System
Students can understand the proportion of credit systems for one and two-year PG programmes from below. As per UGC standards, the one-year degree will be at level 7, while the two-year degree will be at level 6.5.
- One-Year PG Programme: Students will complete 22 credits per semester, for a total of 44 credits.
- Two-Year PG Programme: Students will complete 88 credits.
Reportedly, the university is planning to implement the one-year PG course system with separate curricula being prepared for one and two-year PG courses.
