DU Ready for 4th UG Year with 60% Student Upgradation; ₹200 Cr Women’s Hostel Planned at Dhaka Campus

Delhi University EC unanimously approved the appointment of Prof. Rajni Abbi as the new Director of DU’s South Campus
As the University of Delhi prepares to implement the fourth year of undergraduate studies under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh announced that nearly 60% of students are expected to opt for the additional year. Alongside academic readiness, the university is boosting student infrastructure, including a ₹200 crore hostel for girl students and working women at its Dhaka campus.
At the 1276th meeting of the Executive Council (EC), Prof. Singh stated that DU is fully prepared to roll out the fourth year of UG programs, with provisions to address faculty shortages. Regular faculty will teach the fourth-year classes, while guest faculty will handle junior classes. Additional teaching responsibilities will also be assigned to faculty within or across colleges to manage workload.
Delhi University EC approved the construction of a hostel for girl students and working women at the Dhaka campus, based on recommendations of the Building Committee. The ₹200 crore project will be undertaken by CPWD with a B1+G+9 structure, ensuring no harm to existing trees during construction.
The EC also approved a residential complex at South Extension (₹5 crore) and reviewed progress on the sound reinforcement system for Convention Hall, Tagore Hall, and Sir Shankar Lal Hall. While the latter two are completed, the Convention Hall upgrade is expected by August 12, 2025. Redevelopment work of the Vice Regal Lodge’s adjacent building is also underway and scheduled for completion by August 31, 2025.
In a key administrative development, the EC unanimously approved the appointment of Prof. Rajni Abbi as the new Director of DU’s South Campus, following a proposal placed by the Vice Chancellor.
