IGNOU Confers Over 3 Lakh Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates at 38th Convocation; Union Minister Addresses Students

The IGNOU convocation ceremony was held concurrently at the university's Overseas centers in 15 nations and 39 Regional Centers around the country. The University conferred more than 3 Lakh degrees, diplomas, and certificates in the Convocation to the successful students in their respective programs.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University conducted its 38th Convocation. During the convocation ceremony, the university conferred more than 3 Lakh degrees, diplomas, and certificates to the qualified candidates in their respective programmes. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was the Chief Guest of the event who also delivered the 38th convocation address on the occasion.

Union Minister, while addressing to the students, highlighted IGNOU's achievements ever since its establishment. He highlighted that with over 35 lakh learners and a strong global presence across 58 countries, IGNOU has made a brand value among students because of its curriculum and academics. Going forward, he mentioned that due to its excellence in academics, IGNOU is the top-ranking open university in NIRF 2024. 

Emphasizing IGNOU’s role in enforcing transformative NEP 2020, the Minister said, “India’s education system is undergoing a change under NEP 2020, offering flexibility, multidisciplinary learning, vocational training, and technology-driven education. IGNOU is playing a key role in implementing these reforms, offering diverse programs tailored for working professionals, international students, jail inmates, and defense personnel. Its regional language initiatives, including MBA courses in multiple languages, will help in better comprehension, while promoting accessibility."

IGNOU's Notable Achievements

IGNOU is continuously introducing new academic programmes. In 2024, 47 new programs were launched, bringing the overall number of programs to 334. IGNOU has actively implemented NEP 2020 provisions such as FYUP, multiple entry and exit stages, education in regional languages, and so on.   Many programmes incorporate skill integration. Five skill-based bachelor's degree programs have been specifically established for defense personnel.  Over 5000 Agniveers have enrolled in these programmes.
