IGNOU Extends July 2025 Admission Deadline to August 31 for Fresh Applications and Re-Registration

With the deadline now extended till August 31, IGNOU aims to give more students a chance to apply for its UG, PG, diploma and certificate courses, while continuing its 50% fee concession for SC/ST students.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced an extension of the deadline for fresh admissions and re-registration for the July 2025 academic session to August 31, 2025. The extension applies to both Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online course, giving students an additional two weeks to get admitted into its undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate courses.

Fresh applicants can register through the official Samarth Admission Portal (ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in), while continuing learners can re-register for their next semester or year through the Samarth Student Portal (onlinerr.ignou.ac.in). IGNOU in a tweet has mentioned that the decision aims to accommodate students facing last-minute challenges with documentation or online submissions, ensuring wider participation in the July cycle.

The university in its tweet has reiterated its 50% fee concession policy for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates in undergraduate programmes across arts, science, and commerce streams. However, the concession excludes students who are already availing benefits under other government schemes.

IGNOU’s July admission session attracts lakhs of candidates from across India and also overseas, making it one of the largest open university enrolments globally. With the deadline now extended to August 31, officials expect a surge in registrations, particularly from working professionals and first-generation learners opting for IGNOU’s flexible study options.

The university has urged students not to wait until the last date to complete the admission process, as no further extensions are likely beyond the deadline August 31.
