Members of various statuary bodies of the University of Delhi have urged the Vice-Chancellor to implement senior professorship without ‘discrimination.

Some of the members of Delhi University Academic Council, Executive Council, Finance Committee have sent a letter to the Acting V-C, Prof PC Joshi on implementation of the senior professorship in the various departments of DU for all eligible candidates without any discrimination.

These people have sent similar letters last year and this year as well to the VC. The letter states: “In continuation with our earlier emails dated 27/12/2021, 07/01/2021 and 06/03/2021 and 27/03/2021 in this regard, we are pained and anguished to learn that you are selective in the implementation of senior Professorship in the Departments of DU.”

It further states that earlier the DU administration applied criteria of considering eligible professors for their senior professorship at the verge of retirement, which is arbitrary and devoid of any merit, as the designation gives more happiness while being in service.

They have alleged that now, the university administration seems to have acquired a pick and choose approach too, “as we have seen in cases of some recently held promotions for Senior Professorship.”

The letter also alleges that this move is not justified in the light of the regulations promulgated in this regard by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the /Ministry of Education.

“As a result, this act is demoralizing all the eligible Professors and vitiating the working environment,
In the light of the aforesaid, you are requested to ensure that all the qualified and eligible Professors for their promotion are considered together and not even one be disregarded in the ongoing procedures of Promotion,” the letter sent to DU V-C reads.
