The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited nominations for the Sardar Patel National Unity Award 2024, the highest civilian honour dedicated to promoting national unity and integrity. Nominations are open from June 1 and must be submitted online via the Ministry of Home Affairs’ official portal.
The Sardar Patel National Unity Award, instituted by the Government of India, recognises exceptional contributions by individuals, institutions, and organisations in strengthening the nation’s unity and integrity. The award is conferred annually on October 31—National Unity Day—marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
In its latest announcement, the UGC has urged all higher education institutions to actively identify and nominate deserving candidates. Eligible nominees include Indian citizens from any field or walk of life, as well as institutions that have significantly advanced the cause of national integration. Nominations can be made by individuals themselves or recommended by government bodies, universities, or recognised institutions.
The award includes a citation and a Sanad presented by the President of India in a ceremonial event at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The nomination process is entirely digital and can be accessed through https://awards.gov.in. The UGC has encouraged widespread participation, highlighting the award’s importance in honouring those who embody Sardar Patel’s vision of a unified India.
