The earlier method of giving equal weightage to II PU marks in core subjects such as physics, chemistry, maths and biology, and CET scores has been scrapped with the cancellation of Karnataka Board the Class 12 exams 2021.

Karnataka CET 2021: With the cancellation of Karnataka 2nd PUC Board Exams 2021 and mass promotion of all the students, the Karnataka government stated that marks scored in the Common Entrance Test 2021 will be the sole basis for assigning ranks determining admission to various undergraduate professional courses. Earlier, CET ranks decided with equal weightage to CET scores and II PUC marks in core subjects. However, this earlier method of giving equal weightage to II PU marks in core subjects such as physics, chemistry, maths and biology, and CET scores has been scrapped with the cancellation of Karnataka Board the Class 12 exams 2021 due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation.

The government is planning to expand the ambit of CET to include admissions to all science-related courses, including BSc programmes. Talking about the changes made in order to facilitate college admissions in Karnataka, deputy CM and higher education minister CN Ashwath Narayana said, “The government has written to all authorities including AICTE, NTA and Indian Council of Agricultural Research seeking permission to change the eligibility criteria for admission to professional courses. This on minister S Suresh Kumar’s request not to factor II PU marks for calculating CET ranks as the exam has been cancelled.”

With this, the minimum eligibility marks of 45% (40% for SC/ST/OBC) in core subjects of the II PU exam to write CET will not be applicable for this year. For admission to professional courses, including in agricultural sciences, pharma, engineering, yoga and naturopathy courses in the upcoming academic year, only CET ranking will be taken.

The authority also believes that with the mass promotion of the students, without Karnataka 2nd PUC Results 2021, degree admission seekers may increase by 30%. The proposal minister to stipulate said their minimum is also eligibility marks in CET on the lines of NEET and it may be implemented from this year. “In case CET performance is made the common basis for admission to all science-based courses, some courses may need certain relaxations and this will have to be decided depending on their nature,” he said.

Karnataka CET 2021 will be held on August 28 and 29. Maths and biology will be held on Day 1 and physics and chemistry on Day 2. Each paper will carry 60 marks. Kannada exam for Gadinadu and Horanadu students will be held on August 30. Registration for the entrance test will be open from June 15.
