IIT Delhi: First Yr B.Tech classes to commence from Nov 29, offline classes from Jan for all
For second and third-year students, classes would begin from January 3
The first year B.Tech classes would begin from November 29 in online mode however the institute is calling students to the campus and once all students the back on the campus the classes will fully move to offline mode.
Initially, all classes will not be going for offline mode only the important ones will go offline with 50 percent occupancy will be maintained in classes in offline mode.
IIT Delhi Director Prof Ramgopal Rao said: “We are hoping that by mid-December all the first-year students will be on the campus and then we would start offline classes.”
For second and third-year students, their semester would begin from January 3. Prof Rao said that these students are gradually returning to the campus. “We are ensuring that they are all double vaccinated, and we have made provision of COVID test on the campus to make it safe return,” said Rao.
Right now around 3000 students have returned to hostels and according to Prof Rao, every day institute is bringing 100-150 students to the campus. “By mid-December and starting of January we are hoping that all students will be back on the campus and we are hopeful that we would start offline classes for all,” he said.
Improved Gender Diversity
Among PhD students every third student is girl student and every fourth student at the IIT Delhi campus right now is a female. “This is a major change as number of female students is increasing on the campus, and at present 20% B.Tech students are girls, we have also created supernumerary seats and this shows how gender ration at IIT Delhi has improved,” said Prof Rao.
IIT Delhi 52nd Convocation
The IIT Delhi will hold its 52nd Convocation today where Padmasree Warrior, a distinguished alumna and Founder & CEO, Fable will be the Chief Guest. During the convocation, 2117 graduating students will be awarded their degrees, while meritorious graduating students will be awarded the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Perfect Ten Gold Medal, the Institute Silver Medal and the awards instituted by donors.
Addressing the media on the eve of 52nd Convocation, IIT Delhi Director said that Anant Yardi, President and Founder of Yardi Systems, and an alumnus of IIT Delhi, has agreed to gift USD 10 million (Rs ~75 Cr) to the Institute.
“The money will be spend on creating infrastructure, recruiting good faculty members, providing scholarships,” said Prof Rao.
