JNMC MBBS seats to increase from next year
NMC has accepted AMU's application for increasing MBBS seats of JNMC from 150 to 200.
National Medical Commission (NMC) has accepted Aligarh Muslim University's (AMU) application for increasing the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery) seats from 150 to 200 as tweeted by the AMU's Vice-Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor.
The university is all set to increase the MBBS seats of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) from next year as confirmed by Prof Mansoor.
As reported by indiaeducationdiary, Prof Mansoor said, โNow, stating that the Covid pandemic has re-affirmed the importance of an adequate number of qualified and skilled human resources in health, it is imperative that the number of MBBS seats increase in JNMC and medical colleges across the country.โ
He also stated that to meet the increase in student intake, the university has scaled up the infrastructure and have sufficient faculty members.
The eligibility criteria for taking admission to the MBBS programme in JNMC is the candidate must have attained the minimum age requirement of 17 years and must have completed the 12th exam with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the main subject from any recognised institute. Moreover, the selection will be based on a valid NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) score followed by counselling. The total fee for studying MBBS from AMU is Rs 3.5 lakh.
The UP Nurses and Midwives Council has also permitted the up-gradation of JNMC's General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) to a BSc Nursing degree with an intake of 20 students.
Prof Mansoor commented on this, โMaintaining appropriate staffing in healthcare facilities is essential to enhance preparedness for pandemics and crisis situations. With the permission to upgrade the GNM course to a BSc Nursing, we will easily meet the requirements of health workers.โ
