As per the reports, the cabinet has decided to pass the ordinance today to remove the latter as the Chancellor of state universities. This ordinance from the state government comes amidst the ongoing tussle between the Kerala Government and Governor Khan regarding the appointment of Vice Chancellors at various state universities.
The Kerala government has announced that it has decided to remove Governor Arif Mohammad Khan as the Chancellor of state universities. An ordinance with the intention to remove the Governor as the Chancellor of all universities was brought forward during the cabinet meeting today of the LDF led stated government.
As per the reports, the cabinet has decided to pass the ordinance today to remove the latter as the Chancellor of state universities. This ordinance from the state government comes amidst the ongoing tussle between the Kerala Government and Governor Khan regarding the appointment of Vice Chancellors at various state universities. As per the Times Now report, Kerala Minister for Higher Education, R Bindu has stated that the decision has been taken in order to work towards the improvement of higher education in the state.
The issues regarding the appointment of Vice Chancellor between the state government and the Governor also reached the Kerala High Court. On November 8, the Kerala HC had directed the Governor to not take any action against the vice-chancellors who have been handed a show-cause notice by him regarding their appointment.
Earlier, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan had issued a show-cause notice to the Vice Chancellors of 11 state universities. The Kerala Governor had alleged unacceptable levels of political intervention from the state government regarding the appointment of Vice Chancellors. Earlier on, Khan had stated that if an ordinance is passed regarding the removal of Governor as Chancellor, he would give his approval.
