Justice Lalit, the 49th Chief Justice of India, will teach an advanced course of third-year on Affirmative Action under the Constitution of India and Other Jurisdictions, which is in progress for the founding class.
BITS Law School, under the aegis of BITS Pilani, has announced the appointment of Justice U.U. Lalit, Former Chief Justice of India, as Honorary Professor of Law. Justice Lalit will be teaching a three-year advanced programme on Affirmative Action under the Constitution of India and Other Jurisdictions. The programme will be added in the third-year curriculum and it is currently under progress for the founding class.
Further, Justice Lalit will be involved in academic collaborations, teaching, guiding students, participating in the research projects and programme development of the institute. He will further offer students direct exposure to the constitutional principles in order to attain a deeper understanding of the legal terms and analytical skills for advanced legal study.
Sharing his delight, Justice U. U. Lalit said, “Engaging with students gives me the opportunity to reflect on important constitutional questions in dialogue with the next generation of lawyers. The course on affirmative action allows us to examine both India’s constitutional framework and comparative perspectives from other jurisdictions, encouraging critical discussions on issues of social justice and equality. I find these interactions with young minds deeply enriching, and I look forward to continuing this academic journey with them.”
The lecture by Justice Lalit will come under the "Law and Public Good” series. It will cover the perspectives on action and its results in law and society. The programme will further include India's framework along with the global approaches on affirmative action, including countries like the US, Europe, Africa and Canada.
