Over the alleged ragging incident involving a BBA LLB student at IBS college hostel, the state, Central Education Ministry and UGC get NHRC notices.
In a ragging incident at IBS college where a student pursuing BBA LLB was allegedly beaten, sexually assaulted and forced to chant religious slogans, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices. The NHRC notices are served to the Union Education Ministry, Telangana Chief Secretary and DGP and secretaries of the University Grants Commission.
NHRC has asked Telangana Chief Secretary and DGP to file reports of the incident and also about the actions taken within six weeks. The commission has also sought information about the victim of ragging if the victim has been suspended and under what circumstances, if true, as reported by TOI.
The Centre has been asked about the status of implementation of the recommendations of the Raghvan Committee on "The Menace of Ragging in Educational Institutions and Measures to curb it," which has been affirmed by the Supreme Court for educational institutions across the country.
NHRC referred to the ragging incident as sheer negligence, lack of supervision and inherent failure of the college administration to ensure the safety and security of the students.
"Nothing has improved despite the UGC regulation on curbing the menace of ragging in Higher Educational Institutions way back in 2009," observed the NHRC.
