Delhi High Court has reserved verdict relating to a petition challenging the CAT 2024 result over alleged error in an answer key of the VARC section. The plea has been filed by a CAT 2024 candidate seeking cancellation of result.
The Delhi High Court has reserved verdict on a petition challenging CAT 2024 result filed by a test taker over error in official CAT 2024 answer keys. The plea was heard on January 3, 2024 by Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju who reserved judgment saying the court cannot intervene in disputes relating to competitive exams but for under certain circumstances. As reported by Live Law, the Court added that it only interferes in such disputes when there is an “egregious wrong” but it will not do so when there is a “grey area.”
CAT 2024 test taker Aditya Kumar Mallick, had filed a plea in the Delhi High Court against IIM Calcutta, the exam conducting institute, contending that there was an error in one question from the VARC section of the CAT 2024 question paper.
According to him, incorrect answer to Question No. 18 from VARC section was declared, thereby affecting the exam results. He had raised objection against the question but the final CAT 2024 answer key was released with no change in the provisional CAT answer key 2024.
He has contended that his objection to the said question is supported by distinguished experts and CAT coaching centres’ faculty members.
The candidate further said that the CAT 2024 result was expected in the second week of January, and the haste in declaring results in December "speaks volumes."
CAT 2024 exam was conducted on November 24, 2024 and the provisional CAT 2024 answer keys were released on December 3. The CAT answer key objection window was opened till December 5, 2024. A total of 405 objections were received by IIM Calcutta and upon examination, none of them were found to be valid. Maximum objections were raised in the VARC section (371) across three exam slots. The final CAT 2024 answer key was released on December 16, 2024 and the result was released on December 19, 2024.
