In the NIRF 2025 Management category, IIM Bangalore emerged as the sole institution to register a perfect 100/100 score in the Perception metric. NIRF evaluates business schools across five core parameters, including TLR, RPC, GO, OI, and Perception. Despite IIM Bangalore earning 100/100 in Perception, IIM Ahmedabad retained the Rank 1. Know Why.

IIM Ahmedabad had secured the top rank in the NIRF 2025 Management ranking, but IIM Bangalore achieved a 100/100 Perception score, highlighting key differences across individual ranking metrics.

NIRF MBA Ranking IIM Ahmedabad vs IIM Bangalore

In the NIRF 2025 Management category, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore emerged as the only institute to secure a perfect 100/100 score in the Perception metric. The National Institutional Ranking Framework evaluates business schools across five different parameters: Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RPC), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception. For CAT exam aspirants evaluating India's top B-schools, looking at specific parameters rather than just the overall rank provides better picture on the institutional performance.

What Is the Perception Parameter and Why Is It Different From the Rest?

Unlike metrics that rely strictly on verifiable institutional data, such as student intake, faculty ratios, publications, and median salaries, NIRF calculates the Perception score through external feedback. Under the official methodology, the Perception (PR) parameter carries a 10 per cent weightage (0.10). It assesses peer perception via a survey conducted among a large category of employers, industry professionals from reputed organisations, and academics. This parameter reflects how external academic and industry peers evaluate an institution.

IIM Ahmedabad vs IIM Bangalore vs IIM Kozhikode: Score-by-Score Breakdown

The table below summarises the exact NIRF 2025 scores for the top three management institutes:

Rank Institute TLR (100) RPC (100) GO (100) OI (100) Perception (100) Overall Score
1 IIM Ahmedabad 91.84 64.92 98.72 72.01 93.26 83.29
2 IIM Bangalore 89.16 59.04 98.86 73.27 100.00 81.56
3 IIM Kozhikode 87.75 64.14 95.35 77.80 74.26 79.85

Despite IIM Bangalore earning a maximum score of 100 in Perception, IIM Ahmedabad retained the Rank 1 spot. IIM Ahmedabad had a better score than IIM Bangalore in TLR (91.84 vs 89.16) and RPC (64.92 vs 59.04). Because TLR and RPC each hold a 30 per cent weightage compared to Perception's 10 per cent, IIM Ahmedabad leading in those metrics gave it a higher overall score of 83.29 against IIM Bangalore's 81.56.

Does Perception Score Actually Matter for a CAT Exam Aspirant's Choice?

For candidates appearing for the CAT exam, Perception indicates high respect from employers and academic circles. However, it remains just one part of the ranking framework. A higher Perception score does not guarantee superior placements or individual career outcomes, as NIRF assesses placement and earnings separately under Graduation Outcomes. Aspirants must evaluate all individual metrics, such as faculty strength, research output, and median salary, rather than relying solely on perception.

Ultimately, CAT exam aspirants should look beyond the composite NIRF rank and assess parameter breakdowns to find the institution that matches their priorities.
