IIT Madras’ Department of Management Studies (DoMS) has extended the deadline to apply to its two-year, full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme to 8th February 2026.

Open to fresh graduates as well as experienced professionals, the programme emphasises strong conceptual foundations in the initial quarters, followed by core functional courses in Finance, Marketing, Operations, Human Resources and Organisational Behaviour, Information Systems and Integrative Management. The final phase allows students to specialise through electives across business streams and domain-focused areas.

Head of the department, Prof. Saji K Mathew, DoMS, IIT Madras empahsized that the MBA program upholds diversity with respect to educational background, industry experience, region and gender and has nurtured management professionals who lead across industries since 2001.

Whereas, stressing importance of the unique aspects of this MBA Program, admissions Coordinator Prof. Prathamesh Vivek Kittur, DoMS, IIT Madras, said, “The MBA programme at IIT Madras is curated to develop capable, industry-ready managers through a rigorous curriculum that blends management theory with real-world practice. Structured over seven quarters, the programme includes classroom teaching, case discussions, hands-on industry internships and project work, enabling students to graduate alongside peers from other leading business schools”

Prof. Prathamesh Vivek Kittur added: “Learning is further strengthened through an 8–10 week summer internship after the fourth quarter and a capstone project in the final quarter, providing extensive industry exposure. The goal of the admissions process is to identify the right candidates who can grow into next-generation decision-makers who combine analytical rigor, technological awareness, and a strong sense of social responsibility, contributing towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”

Applicants must hold a recognised undergraduate degree in any discipline with 60 per cent and above (55 per cent for SC/ST/PwD candidates). Final-year students are also eligible and will be admitted provisionally, subject to fulfilling degree requirements by 30th September 2026.

Q:   Is CAT score the most important criteria for MBA admission at DoMS IIT Madras?
A:

For MBA admission, candidates who have applied are further shortlisted based on the composite score (calculated using CAT score, past academic performance, experience, gender and diversity) for a Virtual Interview. The weightage aligned to each and every component of MBA admission selection is as follows:

The final selection is based on the following:

  • Virtual Interview
  • Composite score of selection parameters
  • Other achievements (if any)

For other courses, however, students are either selected on the basis of their academic background, personal interview, SOP of institute conducted entrance exam. 

Q:   How many IIMs can I select in CAT application form?
A:

Candidates can select up to 21 IIMs in CAT application form for PI shortlist and admission. There is no cap on selecting campuses. Candidates must however, make an informed choice but first checking CAT cut off, course specialisation and fee of all IIMs and basis that select campuses in the CAT application form. It is best to choose a combination of top IIMs and newer IIMs so that you have wider options for admission.

Q:   What is the minimum qualification required for PhD admission at DoMS IIT Madras?
A:

Aspirants must pass two to five years dual degree along with five years of managerial experience (for part-time & external) to apply for DoMS IIT Madras PhD course. Other than meeting the eligibility, candidates must have also qualified GATE/ CAT/ UGC-JRF/ UGC NET/ CSIR-JRF/ Research Aptitude Test, have an SOP and appear for the Personal Interview round for final selection. 

Indian nationals must have a valid CAT 2025 score. Foreign nationals must submit a valid GMAT score. Sponsored candidates with at least two years of work experience in the same organisation may apply through the appropriate channel

Personal interviews will be conducted in the following cities:

Mumbai: March 6–8, 2026

Delhi: March 13–15, 2026

Chennai: March 20–22, 2026

Hyderabad: March 28–29, 2026

Kolkata: March 28–29, 2026

The admission results will be declared in May 2026, following which joining, orientation and registration of selected candidates will take place in July 2026. Pre-term classes and examinations are also scheduled for July 2026, with the regular classes for the MBA programme commencing the same month.
