The Central government has given its approval for setting up of a second medical college in Nagaland.
In a bid to improve the state medical sector, the Central Government has given its nod to set up a second medical college in Nagaland, said state Health and Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom. He further said that the new government medical college will be built by upgrading the District Hospital Mon. While thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Harsh Vardhan for approving the new Medical College he said this move has fulfilled the long-cherished dream of the people of Nagaland and Easter Nagas in particular.
"The upcoming medical college will not only cater to the people in the eastern region of the state but will also benefit the people from some parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and even the Nagas and others living along the India-Myanmar border. The state government will prepare the Memorandum of Understanding and submit it to the Centre by next week," he tweeted.
“Thankful to BJP-led NDA Government under the dynamic & visionary leadership of Hon'ble PM @narendramodi & Union Health Minister @drharshvardhan for approving & sanctioning new Government Medical College by upgrading District Hospital Mon,” Phom said in another tweet.
In a letter, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan hoped that under Pangnyu’s “dynamic leadership” the new college will help in meeting the medical needs of the residents of the region and will ensure a healthy and prosperous India.
Meanwhile, the construction works of Nagaland Medical College at Phriebagei, Kohima, is also in progress.
