After Rajasthan and Maharashtra have witnessed such incidents, now a case of violence against a doctor has come from West Bengal where a doctor named Dr Nabarun Majumder has been badly beaten by relatives of the patient. As per reports, his right shoulder has dislocated.
The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has strongly condemned the incident and has requested West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to intervene in this case.
FAIMA tweet reads, "@FAIMA_INDIA_ condemns the repeated act of violence among Healthcare workers. We demand @MamataOfficial to look into this matter. We again demand @PMOIndia @HMOIndia to pass #CentraProtectionAct for protection of health care workers."
FAIMA has said that such incidents will create a hostile and unsafe working environment for healthcare professionals and also will create a sense of fear and anxiety amongst them while treating high-risk patients.
Violence against doctors will not be tolerated: FAIMA
FAIMA press release reads, "Such acts of violence against the caregivers will not be tolerated any further. We request the legislators of the country set laws that will both protect healthcare workers from such barbaric acts of violence while also providing them with a sense of security so that they can carry out patient-related work without fear."
"In the name of justice, we sincerely hope that the souls of all those doctors who died facing such atrocities are honoured and request that the perpetrators of such violence shall be punished as early as possible which will prevent similar unfortunate incidents from happening in the future," added the press release.
