As per reports, a 23-year-old MBBS student from Maharashtra has died after getting infected with the H3N2 virus. The post-mortem showed the presence of the virus in the blood. The deceased student recently tested positive for Covid-19 too. Maharashtra's health department reported two suspected influenza H3N2-related deaths, read here for more details.

H3N2 Influenza Virus: 23-year-old MBBS student dies in Maharashtra

India is currently witnessing an increase in viral infections caused by H3N2, Covid-19 and swine flu. Also, Maharashtra's health department reported two suspected influenza H3N2-related deaths including a 23-year-old MBBS student and a 72-year-old from Nagpur.

During the current influenza outbreak, H3N2 has been the dominant subtype followed by H1N1. India has already confirmed two deaths due to H3N2 in Karnataka and Haryana. Now, as per sources, a young medico, who was pursuing MBBS has reportedly died in Ahmednagar in Maharashtra and during the post-mortem, the H3N2 virus has been found in his blood, as reported by Zee News.

The medical student had gone to Alibaug in Konkan with friends for a picnic last week. After coming from the picnic, his health deteriorated and when he was tested, he was found to be Covid-19 positive. He was then admitted to a private hospital in Ahmednagar where he died at 10 pm on Monday (March 13). However, there is no official confirmation yet that he died due to the H3N2 influenza virus. 

The Maharashtra health minister Tanaji Sawant told the state assembly on Wednesday that a meeting will be held on Thursday in presence of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to evaluate the situation of the surge in H3N2 cases in the state.
