The controversy erupted after recent reports, including one published on July 22, revealed that HIMSR’s MBBS and PG medical seats had been removed from NEET UG and NEET PG counselling this year.

The Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (HIMSR) has issued an official clarification rejecting allegations of financial irregularities and asserting that the recent withdrawal of 150 MBBS and 49 postgraduate medical seats for the 2025–26 academic year was due to an affiliation dispute with Jamia Hamdard University, not any diversion of funds.

In a statement released on July 23, HIMSR termed recent media reports suggesting a diversion of ₹813 crore as “misrepresented and misleading.” The institute said its finances are regularly audited by reputed firms, including PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and that no findings of wrongdoing have been flagged by any statutory body. HIMSR also clarified that no action or penalty has been issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) in relation to the financial allegations.

The controversy erupted after recent reports, including one published on July 22, revealed that HIMSR’s MBBS and PG medical seats had been removed from NEET UG and PG counselling this year. The removal came amid a pending case in the Delhi High Court over Jamia Hamdard’s unilateral withdrawal of affiliation from HIMSR in June 2024—a move the institute says violated a court-issued status quo order.

HIMSR emphasized that the NMC had not disqualified the institute or de-recognized its courses, and that the institute continues to meet all regulatory requirements. It urged students and parents not to panic or spread misinformation, stating that efforts are underway to resolve the matter through legal channels. If resolved, HIMSR may still be able to participate in subsequent NEET counselling rounds.

The situation has caused considerable anxiety among NEET aspirants who had selected HIMSR as a preferred college during registration. While the legal process continues, the episode has reignited calls for more transparent mechanisms for affiliation, audits, and seat notifications—especially in private and deemed universities involved in medical education.
