Karnataka High Court has dismissed a plea, challenging the Centre’s decision of postponement of NEET PG 2021 exam. In the first week of May, the government had announced that NEET PG 2021 exam will not be conducted before August 31, 2021. While dismissing the petition, a Division Bench of Justices Nagarathna and Hanchate Sanjeevkumar said the policy decision can’t be faulted. The Centre must have taken the decision on the basis of the opinion of the experts, the court observed.

"It is needless to observe that the said postponement is in the background of the "second wave" of the Covid-19 pandemic and the need to enlist the services of doctors for duties so as to manage the medical facilities and attend to the patients suffering from the disease. The decision...in our view, cannot be faulted...as the decision would have been on the basis of the opinion of experts and on sound discretion being exercised by the second respondent-department," said the bench.

In an official notification on May 3, the government had postponed the NEET PG 2021 exam for four months. The decision was taken to boost the number of medical personnel to tackle covid situation. NEET PG 2021 candidates were also assured that they would be given at least one month’s time for NEET PG 2021 exam preparation. Other competitive entrance exams including INI CET 2021, JEE Mains were also postponed amid a spike in covid cases. Though NTA has scheduled NEET 2021 exam for August 1, its registration has yet not started. As per reports, Education Ministry will take a final call for the revised exam dates after reviewing the covid situation.

NBE conducts NEET PG, which is abbreviated as National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post-Graduation. The exam is conducted annually in computer-based mode at designated centres across the country.
