The National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) examination will be conducted only in Government schools of Assam. The announcement has been made by the Chief Minster of the state, Himanta Biswa Sarma. Following this, the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has also approved the request of the CM. In addition, the state government has begun correspondence with the center in this regard. The NEET UG entrance exam 2025 will take place on May 4 across India.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has raised his concerns over the conduct of the critical medical exam in private educational institutions, expressing concerns about potential irregularities and risks to the exam's integrity, as reported by TOI.
The Chief Minister, on social media platform Facebook, said "I asked Union Minister if we could conduct the NEET exam in government schools under strict surveillance and security. He accepted my proposal and agreed to implement changes to conduct NEET exclusively in government schools in Assam. We have already communicated with the central government, and NEET exam centres for May will be set up only in government schools in Assam."
"Extensive verification, including Aadhaar and biometric authentication, would be utilized to prevent cheating. Without criticizing previous NEET selections, we aim to assure more careful scrutiny this year", CM stated further.

Till last year, candidates were provided N95 masks at the NEET exam centre which was mandatory to be used by candidates. They had to dispose of their own masks before entering the exam centre at the designated bin. However, since the intensity of Covid has reduced as compared to the last two years, this year candidates may not be provided masks at the centre. The information will be confirmed after the release of the NEET admit card. However, it is recommended that they wear face masks for the entire duration. This should be done to ensure their and other test-takers' safety.
