NEET: 6 new medical colleges in WB expected to start admission in 2022
NEET 2022 counselling: As many as six new medical colleges in West Bengal are likely to start admission this year.
If all goes as per the plan, six new medical colleges in West Bengal can start admission this year with an intake of 100 MBBS seats each. The new colleges in Arambagh, Tamluk, Ulberia, Jalpaiguri, Brasat and Jhargram are all set to add 600 MBBS seats in Bengal.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has already given its nod to five medical colleges excluding Jhargram Medical College. The commission has issued a conditional letter of intent to these medical colleges and asked the principals of these new medical colleges to provide the undertaking that all necessary infrastructure based on NMC's guidelines will be set up, as reported by TOI.
The health officials in Bengal are expecting a nod for the Jhargram Medical College as well. Narayan Swaroop Nigam, health secretary, said that the NMC team conducted an inspection of Jhargram Medical College on Tuesday and he expects that the NMC will also provide the nod for this medical college.
Faculty recruitment is going on in six new medical colleges
The Bengal health officials said that the process is underway to hire 6 professors, 20 associate professors and 26 assistant professors and 40 RMOs-cum tutors in these medical colleges.
To start MBBS admission to these colleges, health officials need a Letter of Permission (LOP) from NMC which the health officials are expecting this year. The NMC will check the infrastructure and manpower and then provide LOP, said the officials.
