NEET 2024 Counselling Category Conversion to NRI

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued notice for candidates willing to convert their nationality from Indian to NRI. Such candidates will have to send an email to MCC with the requisite document proving their nationality between August 7, 10 AM and August 10, 10 AM.

In the notice, MCC has stated, “It is for the information to all the candidates that those who are claiming to be NRI should send their relevant documents as mentioned below, in support of their claim to change nationality from Indian to NRI through e-mail ug.nri.mcc@gmail.com.”

MCC adds, “Mails received before/ after the stipulated time will not be considered. Candidates are advised to send all documents enclosed in single mail only, within stipulated time.”

List of Documents Required for Nationality Conversion to NRI

The following documents have to be uploaded in the email in the following order:

  • Documents claiming that the sponsorer is an NRI (Passport, Visa of the sponsorer).
  • Relationship of NRI with the candidate.
  • Affidavit from the sponsorer that he/she will sponsor the entire course fee of the candidate duly notarised.
  • Embassy Certificate of the Sponsorer (Certificate from the Consulate).
  • NEET Score Card of the candidate.

Conditions Levied by MCC for Candidates Willing to Convert Nationality to NRI

MCC has laid down the following conditions for candidates who are willing to change nationality to NRI:

  • Candidates must have appeared and qualified for NEET 2024
  • Once the category is changed, candidates will not be able to avail the benefit under Muslim Minority quota/Jain Minority Quota/ SC/ ST/ OBC/ EWS or any other Quota.
  • The conversion of the Nationality of candidates from ‘Indian’ to ‘NRI’ is ‘Provisional’ based on the documents submitted by the candidates which will be verified by the allotted college authorities at the time of reporting.

The registration process for NEET 2024 counselling will begin on August 14 and the last date of registration is August 20. There will be four rounds of NEET counselling 2024 to be conducted by MCC. The NEET 2024 counselling schedule was announced by MCC on July 29, 2024.

Q:   Who conducts NEET counselling?

The NEET counselling is segregated into two categories: central or national, and state counselling. The central counselling for NEET is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee. The NEET counselling process conducted by MCC is for the admission to the 15 per cent All India Quota seats. On the other hand, State Authorities or the Education Department of various states conduct NEET state counselling for the 85 per cent state quota seats. MCC conducts the NEET counselling for MBBS, BDS and B.Sc. Nursing courses. On the other hand, the State Counselling Authorities conduct the admission process for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, and other medical or allied courses.

  • They have to qualify for the NEET by securing the cutoff marks
  • They have to register on the official website of MCC
