NEET PG 2025: Karnataka High Court rejects plea to change caste category after results
The HC court ruled that since the NBEMS correction window (March 9–11, 2025) had already been provided, candidates cannot request category changes after results are out.
The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a plea by a NEET PG 2025 candidate who sought to change her category from General Merit to OBC after the declaration of results.
The petitioner, C. Anusha from Ballari, had written the exam under the General category and later claimed she belonged to the Nekar (weavers) community. Results were declared on August 19, 2025, but she filed a petition on September 8 seeking the change.
The court ruled that since the NBEMS correction window (March 9–11, 2025) had already been provided, candidates cannot request category changes after results are out. Allowing such corrections would “disturb the merit list” and affect other aspirants, the bench observed.
A division bench comprising Justices DK Singh and Venkatesh Naik T while rejecting the petition observed the in Bhanusri case request for a change in category was made prior to the announcement of result, while this is being after NEET PG results were announced in August.
The HC bench observed that both the cases relied on by the counsel for the petitioner are distinguishable on the facts of the present case. We, therefore, find no substance in this writ petition," the division bench observed while stressing that a NEET UG/PG candidate would not be entitled to change his or her category after the declaration of results, after failing to utilise the window period for correcting the category.
The order makes it clear that category once chosen in NEET applications becomes final unless corrected in time, and post-result pleas will not be entertained.
