National Board of Examinations in Medical Science is yet to announce NEET PG registration dates 2026. The delay in release of NEET PG 2026 application form has raised concerns among medicos preparing for MD/ MS admissions. While NBEMS has not announced any update of the examination, the registration process has been delayed comparing to its usual timeline.
NEET PG is conducted for admission to MD, MS, and PG Diploma courses across India. Any delay in application process would have a major effect on subsequent stages, including admit card release, examination, result, counselling, and commencement of academic session.
How Will NEET PG 2026 Registration Delay Affect Counselling?
The NEET PG registration delay will have a cascading effect on result announcement of this year. Since last year examination was held on August 3 and this year the exam in on August 30, the result announcement is also expected to be delayed by a month. This will leave less time for:
- Result declaration
- Merit list preparation
- All India Quota counselling
- State counselling rounds
- College reporting and admissions

No. Candidates need the minimum cut off to qualify for NEET PG. It must be noted only those who qualify the exam with the minimum cut off score will be eligible to participate in the counselling rounds for seat allotment. Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts online counselling for seat allotment. Candidates have to register and declare choice for college and course for seat allotment.
The counselling of NEET PG is an online process. Thus, candidates need not to go anywhere for the counselling process. However, candidates do need to report to the institute allocated to them for confirmation of their admission. NEET PG 2025 qualified candidates will have to register on the official website, mcc. nic. in to participate in the counselling process. Each round of NEET PG counselling takes around 15-20 days time starting from registration to reporting. Initial rounds takes a bit more time than last rounds. Candidates have to register online and declare choice for college and course for seat allotment. Registration can be done on the official website. A total of 4 rounds of counselling is held for seat allotment. Based on choice declared by candidates, available seats, NEET PG rank, reservation factor etc. seats are allotted to candidates.
The delay in NEET PG 2026 will have a major impact on academic cycle. Several medicos believe that delayed counselling can push back the joining date of resident doctors. Because of this both training programmes and hospital services will be affected. In some states, counselling delay may affect the start of academic sessions by several months.
