National Testing Agency (NTA) has started NEET UG 2026 exam at 2 PM on May 3, 2026. Candidates appearing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test must know the NEET 2026 official exam guidelines by NTA to ensure they are not stopped from entering in the exam hall. The exam day guidelines include NEET 2026 dress code guidelines for both male and female students. Students have to ensure they follow the rules and do not carry any item mentioned in NEET UG prohibited items list 2026

NEET 2026 is a paper-pencil-based test for admission to MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, and other allied medical courses in India. Over 22.7 lakh students are going to appear in this entrance test. The exam is being conducted in pen-and-paper-based mode in 551 Indian cities and 14 international exam centres. In the meantime, NTA has also released NEET 2026 admit card at neet.nta.nic.in.

NEET 2026 Exam Timing & Reporting Guidelines

NEET UG exam is conducted in a single shift from 2 PM to 5 PM. Hence, students must try to reach the exam centre atleast between 11 AM to 1 PM to complete the security checking on time. Students must note that NTA closed the NEET 2026 entry gate at 1:30 PM. No students were allowed to enter the exam hall after 1:30 PM.

NTA NEET 2026 Dress Code 

Students appearing in NEET UG 2026 exam must carry simple clothes at the exam centres. NEET dress code for female 2026 restricts them from wearing any heavy jewellery to the exam centre. In case of students with religious attire, reporting between 11 AM to 12 Noon was suggested for mandatory security checking.

    Candidates with benchmark disabilities will be provided compensatory time of one hour in addition to 3 hour exam period. The total NEET exam timing for disabled students is 4 hours.

    Q:   What is the timing of the NEET examination?

    The duration of NEET exam is three hours. The exam timing is 2 PM to 5 PM. Test takers needed to report to the exam centre latest by 1 PM. They could not leave the exam hall before 5 PM. 

    Q:   Will candidates be provided with face masks at the NEET exam centres?
    A: 

    Till last year, candidates were provided N95 masks at the NEET exam centre which was mandatory to be used by candidates. They had to dispose of their own masks before entering the exam centre at the designated bin. However, since the intensity of Covid has reduced as compared to the last two years, this year candidates may not be provided masks at the centre. The information will be confirmed after the release of the NEET admit card. However, it is recommended that they wear face masks for the entire duration. This should be done to ensure their and other test-takers' safety.

    Postcard Size Photo for NEET 2026: NTA Requirements

    The National Testing Agency (NTA) has notified that NEET 2026 students have to get a postcard-sized photo for the verification process. Students have to paste their postcard size photo in the specific proforma on the NEET Admit Card and submit it at the exam hall. Below are the requirement of postcard size photo. 

    • The photograph should be 4 x 6 inches (10.16 cm x 15.24 cm).

    NTA has prescribed NEET 2026 dress code for male students. Follow the below dress code for exam:

    How many students registered for NEET 2026?

    The National Testing Agency has announced that 22,79,743 students have registered for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates this year. Out of the total registered students, 58% are female students, while 42% are male students. 13,32,928 females and 9,46,815 male candidates are expected to appear in the exam tomorrow. 

    Note: Earlier, there were reports that over 26 lakh students would be appearing in the exam, but NTA has clarified that 22.79 lakh students have registered for the exam.
