NEET UG 2026 Physics Answer Key Controversy

NEET UG 2026 Physics Answer Key Controversy

NEET 2026 Controversy: National Testing Agency released provisional answer key for NEET UG on May 6. Soon after release, NEET Physics numerical question related to significant figures and rounding rules created confusion among candidates, teachers and coaching institutes. Many aspirants have stated that Physics answer mentioned in provisional NEET 2026 answer key has been rounded off incorrectly. This dispute is now being discussed on social media platforms, with candidates preparing to challenge answer through NEET UG 2026 objection window.

NEET Physics Question

According to provisional NEET answer key, correct answer is option 4, that is 7.6. But many media reports claimed that the correct answer should be 7.7. This revolves around rules of significant figures and rounding off used in Physics calculations.

According to several teachers, calculated value obtained after solving question is approximately 7.654. Experts argue that, as per standard scientific rounding rules and NCERT based methodology, value should be rounded off to 7.7 instead of 7.6.

They claim that if this answer is rounded correctly considering significant figures, option 2 should be treated as right answer. This difference of just 0.1 has now become a major issue because even one mark can affect All India Rank and MBBS admission chances of students.

Under NEET marking scheme, every correct answer carries 4 marks, while one mark is deducted for every incorrect response. As a result, candidates who attempted this question expecting full marks now fear loss of five marks, four marks not awarded and one mark deducted due to negative marking.

Several aspirants aiming for a perfect score of 720 out of 720 believe their chances could be affected if only 7.6 is accepted as correct answer. Many of those who marked 7.7 in examination are worried that they may lose marks if NTA does not revise answer in NEET final answer key 2026.

Revision or Dual NEET Answers

Candidates and experts are now demanding that NTA either revise NEET UG answer key and change correct option to 7.7 or accept both 7.6 and 7.7 as correct answers. They argue that since the confusion is related to interpretation of significant figures and rounding methodology, students should not be penalised for following scientific rules taught in schools and coaching institutes.
