NEET UG Application Form 2026: NTA To Introduce Live Photo and Facial Biometric Verification
National Testing Agency is likely to introduce live photo capture and facial biometric verification for candidates applying for NEET UG 2026. This decision has been taken to tighten security and reducing scope for impersonation and misuse during admission process.
Live Photo Capture to Be Mandatory During Registration
From 2026 admission cycle, NEET UG aspirants will have to capture a live photograph while filling application form, in addition to uploading a recent passport size image. Live photo will be taken in real time using a webcam or mobile camera and will be directly linked to the candidate’s application details. As per reports, this step is meant to ensure that applicant and exam-day candidate are same person.
Facial Biometric Checks at Exam Centres
Apart from application stage, facial biometric verification is expected to be carried out at exam centres. Facial data recorded during registration will be matched again before candidates are allowed entry into exam hall. This additional check will be done along with existing verification like admit cards and valid identity documents.
Decision Comes After NEET UG 2024 Controversy
Introduction of biometric verification is being implemented after a turbulent period for NEET UG. NEET UG 2024 results caused widespread controversy after unusually high scores were reported, including several candidates securing a perfect 720. Allegations of question paper leaks, irregularities at exam centres and grant of grace marks to certain candidates led to protests by students and parents in several states.
Supreme Court on NTA
While Supreme Court declined to cancel the NEET UG 2024 examination, observing that there was no evidence of a large-scale or systemic paper leak, matter put intense scrutiny on functioning of NTA. Subsequently, Centre set up a high-level committee to examine examination processes and recommend measures to strengthen transparency, accountability and security in national-level tests.
Biometric Measures Part of Broader Exam Reforms
Biometric verification including facial recognition have emerged as major recommendation during discussions on reforming entrance examinations. A pilot exercise using Aadhaar-linked facial authentication was reportedly conducted during NEET UG 2025 at select centres to test technology before rolling it out on a larger scale.
Detailed Guidelines Expected Before NEET UG Registration Begins
NTA is expected to issue detailed instructions for NEET UG 2026 registration, explaining the live photo process, facial biometric checks and identity requirements. Candidates may also be asked to update their Aadhaar details, photographs before application window opens to avoid last minute complications.
