NEET UG Counselling 2026: NMC Adds 9,911 New MBBS Seats; AIQ Registration To Begin Soon
NEET UG Counselling 2026 is about to begin. NMC has officially added 9,911 new MBBS seats across India. These seats will be available for 15% AIQ quota and 85% state quota seats. Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will soon begin NEET counselling 2026 for admission to MBBS/ BDS/ BSc Nursing courses. The counselling process by MCC will only be conducted for 15% All India quota seats, while the remaining 85% seats will be filled by each state for their respective state quota seats.Â
Medical aspirants seeking admission to MBBS/ BDS courses must note that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced a huge update in the NEET seat matrix. It has added 9,911 new MBBS seats for the upcoming NEET UG counselling 2026.Â
The increase in seats will apply to various medical colleges across the country. Both government medical colleges and private institutes will see a rise in their intake capacity. This move may reduce the cut-off pressure for students. More students will now get a chance to get admission to UG medical, dental and nursing programmes at their desired institutes.Â
MCC NEET Counselling 2026 Update: Official Website Updated
Following the seat increase, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has set up the MCC NEET counselling portal. The official MCC NEET UG counselling registration link will be activated shortly. Students must keep their documents ready to appear for the counselling process.Â

NEET counselling seat matrix refers to the number of seats offered across the participating institutes for each course. The seat matrix is released by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) before the commencement of the counselling process. The seat matrix is released in institute-wise categories for the types of institutes, such as Deemed universities, AIIMS & JIPMER, etc. For NEET 2025 counselling, the primary seat matrix released by MCC for Round 1 was of for Deemed University, Central University, BSc Nursing and AIQ seats. After that, for the second and third rounds, MCC releases the list of newly added seats along with the clear vacancy and virtual vacancy.
The MCC conducts around 4 to 5 rounds for NEET UG Counselling process for MBBS, BDS, BHMS and other seats. The rounds of NEET counselling depends on seat matrix and number of vacant seats.
The NEET counselling registration fee varies for different candidate categories. For the AIQ seats and Central Universities, the fee for the General category candidates is INR 1,000 and for the SC, ST, OBC and PwD category candidates, the fee is INR 500. For participating in the NEET counselling process for Deemed Universities, the registration fee for all category candidates is INR 5,000. The registration fee is non-refundable. On the other hand, candidates will have to pay the tuition fee which is refundable. The amount for the General category candidates for the AIQ seats and Central Universities is INR 10,000. For the reserved category candidates, the amount is INR 5,000. For Deemed Universities, the tuition fee to be paid by all category candidates is INR 2,00,000. Those who would not be allotted a seat after the NEET counselling process will be refunded the tuition fee after the conclusion of the counselling rounds.
The counselling registration will be conducted on the NEET 2026 counselling website mcc.nic.in. The NEET UG 2026 counselling registration link is expected to remain open for two weeks. Further, the counselling process will tentatively be conducted in three rounds, followed by a stray vacancy round.
What Should Students Do Now?
The admission process for MBBS/ BDS and BSc Nursing courses through NEET UG score is going to begin soon. At present, students must do the following tasks:Â
- Candidates should regularly visit the official MCC website for updates on NEET UG 2026 counselling.
- Keep NEET scorecard, identity proofs, category certificates, class 10 documents, class 12 documents and other things ready.Â
- Keep an eye on both government medical college MBBS seats 2026 and deemed university seat matrix.Â
- Make a simulated preference list for the desired college and check their last year cutoff to know their admission chances.Â
