Centre Warns Social Media Platforms Against Spread of Fake Information
In a separate meeting, representatives from major social media platforms, including Meta, Google and Telegram were asked to take strict action against spread of misinformation related to competitive exams.
Officials raised concerns over fake Telegram channels and anonymous online groups that become active before major examinations. These channels allegedly spread false paper leak claims, misleading posts and unverified information, creating panic and confusion among students and parents.
Authorities also noted that many suspicious links redirect users to fake groups and automated bots that help circulate misinformation on a large scale. According to intelligence inputs shared during meeting, several such channels are reportedly being operated through a small number of phone numbers, indicating organised activity behind the spread of fake content.
Block and Remove Fake Channels on Social Media
Taking serious note of matter, Dharmendra Pradhan directed authorities and social media companies to identify, block and remove fake channels and groups spreading rumours before NEET UG re-exam.
He said social media platforms must work closely with Ministry of Education, NTA and law enforcement agencies to quickly stop misinformation. He also reiterated that protecting students from misleading information and ensuring public trust in exam system remains top priority for government.
