What is Included in NMC MBBS Seat Matrix 2026-27?
Revised MBBS seat matrix includes changes arising from permissions granted for
-
Establishment of new medical colleges
-
Increase in annual MBBS intake of existing medical colleges
-
Decisions of MARB
-
Decisions of the 1st Appeal Committee, NMC
-
Decisions of the 2nd Appeal Committee, MoHFW
NMC has clarified that MBBS seat matrix is based on approvals granted by competent authorities under provisions of National Medical Commission Act, 2019.
NMC has stated that updated MBBS seat matrix is not necessarily final and may be revised wherever required. Any subsequent decision by Appeal Committee or another competent authority can result in changes to the notified seat matrix. NEET UG 2026 candidates should check latest seat matrix before making or modifying their college preferences during counselling.
NMC Issues Directions to Counselling Committees
NMC has directed counselling committees to strictly follow approved seat matrix while conducting MBBS admissions. If a counselling committee finds any discrepancy or deviation in approved number of seats, this must be referred to the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) for clarification.
The counselling committees have also been instructed not to permit admission against seats exceeding number approved and notified by MARB. This means that the number of seats displayed during counselling must correspond with the latest approved NMC seat matrix.
Medical Colleges Cannot Admit Students Beyond Approved Intake
NMC has issued strict directions to all medical colleges regarding MBBS admissions for the 2026-27 academic year. Medical colleges and institutions must ensure that students are admitted only against the number of MBBS seats approved in the latest NMC seat matrix.
The Commission has warned that admitting students beyond the approved annual intake will be considered non-compliance with the provisions of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, and the regulations framed under it.
Medical Colleges Asked to Check Seat Details
NMC has also advised all medical colleges to verify their details in the updated seat matrix for 2026-27. If a college finds any discrepancy or omission in its name, approved intake or other details, it has been directed to immediately bring the matter to the notice of the President or Director, MARB, for examination and appropriate action.
Impact on NEET UG 2026 Counselling
This revised MBBS seat matrix is important for NEET UG 2026 counselling, as it establishes approved intake capacity of medical colleges for 2026-27 academic session. Candidates participating in MCC counselling and respective state NEET UG counselling should refer to latest approved seat information when assessing available MBBS seats.
However, MBBS seat matrix may still undergo further changes if additional approvals or appeal decisions are issued by the competent authorities. Candidates should therefore rely on the latest seat matrix published by NMC and the seat matrix released by the respective counselling authority at the time of choice filling.
