PGIMER's former dean gets Padma Shri award

The former dean (research ) and head of the pulmonary medicine department of the PGIMER, Professor Digambar Behera, was conferred with the Padma Shri award by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Marking a proud moment for Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), the former dean (research) and head of pulmonary medicine department of the PGIMER, Professor Digambar Behera, was conferred with the Padma Shri award by President Ram Nath Kovind at the civil investiture ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. He was given the prestigious award for his outstanding contribution to the field of medicine.

Digambar Behera - an acclaimed respiratory medicine specialist

He is a renowned specialist in respiratory medicine and a recipient of 29 national and seven international awards and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2020 for his exemplary contribution in the field of medicine. Hailing from Odisha, he completed his graduation from SCB Medical College, Utkal University, in 1978. The same year, he joined PGIMER's department of medicine as a junior resident and completed his MD from PGIMER in 1980.

He has clinical experience of more than 40 years and has been associated with PGIMER, Chandigarh, till April 2021.
