Registered Medical Practitioners under NMC Act, 2019 can use 'Med Dr' as prefix: NMC
As per the new draft regulations by National Medical Commission, the Registered Medical Practitioner under NMC Act, 2019 can use 'Med Dr' as prefix.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has put draft regulations in the public domain to address a wide range of issues of registered medical practitioners (RMPs).
One of the points given in the draft regulations stated that the RMPs under the NMC Act, 2019 can use 'Med Dr' as the prefix.
The official notification reads, "Only those RMPs who are registered under NMC Act, 2019, can use Medical Doctor (Med Dr.) as a prefix before their names. Every self-employed RMP shall display the unique registration ID assigned to her/him by EMRB in his/her prescription, certificate, and money receipts given to patients. Employed RMP shall get a seal made by the employer for displaying the unique registration number below the RMP’s signatures."
RMP cannot claim to be clinical specialists unless done specific training
The regulations also mentioned that an RMP shall not claim to be a clinical specialist unless he/she has NMC recognized training and qualification in that specific branch of modern medicine. Also, every RMP shall practice the system of medicine in which he/she has trained and certified (for this purpose referred to as modern medicine or allopathic medicine) and shall not associate professionally with any unqualified person to perform any treatment, procedure, or operation.
There are many such points given in the draft regulations and NMC has asked for the public comments, which can be sent latest by June 22 at the email emrb.ethics@nmc.org.in.
